The Spark Generator is used for measurements on Linear Air Tracks when using 'Spark Recording' instead of Photo Gates. The gliders, fixed with a metal electrode each, generate sparks that jump small gaps from a long metal track to a strip of paper tape on the other side of the track.

The Spark Generator is responsible for producing 2x sets of sparks, which can be precisely adjusted in rate from 2.5 to 50 per second. A pair of high-voltage cables connect the instrument to the spark tracks. The resulting paper tape will display black dots for each spark, making it possible to calculate velocity and acceleration.
