The Potentiometer Slide Wire Type Alum Base is an effective and precise instrument for measuring small voltages in electric circuits. When used with a Galvanometer, a change-over switch, a 4V or 6V battery, and a Standard Cell or Voltage Reference, it is a key tool for teaching about electricity.

Both models have a construction that includes an aluminum channel base to prevent warping and cracking compared to wood. A metric rule is placed below two lengths of 'Advance' wire, which maintains a consistent resistance regardless of temperature. To ensure precise contact with the wire, a 'Jockey' is included and the exact contact point can be measured in millimeters on the rule.
